Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI)
According to the World Health Organisation, up to 10% of patients acquire an infection in our hospitals and healthcare facilities.
This costs Healthcare Facilities billions of Euro in increased lengths of stay and both direct and indirect costs of treating these infections.
For patients, the increased morbidity and mortality associated with HCAI mean hospitals are scary places to be.
We owe it to our patients to do all we can to help reduce these risks
While not all these infections are preventable, we now know many are. Prudent, accurate use of antibiotics; a clean hospital environment; correct skin decontamination using Chlorhexidine and Alcohol based disinfectants; cessation of smoking for more than 2 weeks pre operatively; aseptic non touch technique for invasive procedures; disinfection and sterilisation of equipment – the list of things that effect and impact positively on risk of infection are numerous.
However hand hygiene is recognised as the single most effective measure in reducing HCAI
Our Technology System TS+ is based on the WHO 5 moments conceptual framework for hand hygiene and supports the multi modal strategy for improving hand hygiene compliance.
